About FiSH

This website began as a promise to my mother-in-law nearly 20 years ago. My father-in-law was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease and they did not want to move from their 2-storey beachside townhouse. They were fortunate to have the financial capacity to renovate. The third bedroom became a large ‘wet’ bathroom into which a wheelchair or the electric scooter could be easily manoeuvred. External ramps were fitted. A lift was installed to allow continued access to the second storey living area and the view onto the bay. Independence and maintaining the small pleasures of retirement were a priority.

Not long after the death of my father-in-law, my mother-in-law made the decision to sell the property. She was keen that the modifications should not be wasted. She strongly believed that someone out there could benefit from the modifications. She asked me to investigate the opportunities for advertising to groups who may have the most need. This proved to be fruitless and, despite her desire the house was not sold to someone who could take maximum advantage of the changes.

Twenty years later there remains no easy way to search for residential buildings for sale or rent that are suited to people with specific needs. Working in healthcare, most days I am reminded that there is an increasing need for housing that is adapted to this diverse community. This website is free and endeavours to provide simplicity and clarity to home modification searches, facilitating low-stress access to suitable accommodation options for people with specific needs.
